DUNLOP HOLDS NAME CHANGING CONTEST
By Adnews Staff
Dunlop Tires has begun a contest called the "Tired of Your Name" challenge in which Canadians with the last name Dunlop have been invited to change their name to Dunlop-Tire. Dunlop commissioned Decima Research to poll the attitudes and opinions of a cross-section of Canadians before starting the contest. According to the results 42% of Canadians believe that changing one's name to adopt corporate brands will become a new form of corporate marketing and 37% would adopt a corporate brand name if paid well to do so. The first 50 individuals to legally change their name will split $25,000 in cash. "At Dunlop Tires, we've always encouraged customers to make their mark, and time and time again they've responded to our non-traditional challenges," said Sam Fry, Canadian product manager for Dunlop. The offer is open to any Canadian, excluding those in Quebec, over the age of 18 with the last name Dunlop. Approximately 1,000 information kits have been distributed to Canadian residents of that name. Other Dunlops can call the company for more information. Participants must respond by Jan. 11 and have until March 11 to legally change their name. The "Tired of Your Name" challenge is being supported with media and public relations from Environics Communications.
