M&M Meat Shops of Kitchener, ON, have signed a sponsorship agreement with Canadian curlers Wayne Middaugh and Sherry Middaugh. The husband and wife are the skips of a men's and women's team respectively that will compete in Regina next month for berths at the Salt Lake City Olympic Games. The sponsorship contract is for the duration of the 2001/2002 curling season. M&M will provide the teams with athletic clothing for tournaments and performance-based financial incentives. In return, the Middaughs will be involved in M&M promotional activities. M&M has sponsored Wayne Middaugh's team since 1996. This is the first season that the food retailer will also sponsor Sherry Middaugh's team. "We've taken on a greater role in supporting Canadian curling because we believe that curling events promote a strong sense of community spirit," said M&M's marketing director Chris Styan. "Curling is a sport that's enjoyed by families across the country and we take pride in bringing families and friends together at live curling events or around the TV at home." M&M's previous support of the sport has included associate sponsorship of the World Curling Tour in 1999 and 2000, and title sponsorship of this year's M&M Meat Shops Skins. The company is also a Silver sponsor of the Canadian Olympic Curling Trials which will take place Dec. 1-9 in Regina.
