MICROSOFT BREAKS XBOX TELEVISION ADVERTISING

Microsoft Canada of Mississauga released three 30-second television spots for its new Xbox video game system last night. The ads, which ran on MuchMusic during the 2001 MTV Video Music Awards, are the first television advertising for the Xbox system. Previous marketing support has included print advertising and sponsorship. The commercials, created by MacLaren McCann of Toronto, depict a prophet who delivers a message about how the Xbox will change gaming forever. The ads will run on specialty stations and during late night television. Microsoft's Xbox system will be available at Canadian retailers on November 8. Additional marketing and advertising components designed to build awareness for the Xbox brand will follow. The advertising is being supported with public relations from Edelman Public Relations.
