STAR DATA MAY BE LOOKING

Star Data Systems of Markham, Ont. could be looking for an advertising agency next year, communications programs coordinator Jacqui Dobson told Adnews this week. The software company isn't moving on the idea yet, but next year it might decide to advertise more heavily. Currently it uses agencies on a project basis. Star Data software is used by people in the financial community to pull up current prices for securities traded on the Toronto Stock Exchange, as well as news releases and research information. The company is also offering a growing range of systems for managing investments. Goodman Communications of Toronto was hired last month to handle public relations. Goodman won the business in a competition with The Martland Group of Toronto because "of the depth of their experience in financial public and media relations, and the range of services and creative thinking they'll bring to our account," Star Data president Cal Haverstock says in a release. Star Data previously used PR agencies on a project basis but decided to hire one full-time after the company went public last June. It wanted to give its stock more exposure, Dobson said.
