AT&T WIRELESS INCREASES INTEREST IN ROGERS COMMUNICATIONS

AT&T Wireless of Redmond, WA has increased its ownership of Toronto-based Rogers Wireless Communications. AT&T, in partnership with British Telecommunications plc, had previously held a 34 per cent stake in Rogers Wireless. AT&T will now acquire BT's interest in the partnership for US$380 million in cash. "Our strategy is to be the preeminent wireless carrier in North America and this deal assures a best-in-class footprint in Canada," said John Zeglis, chairman and chief executive officer of AT&T Wireless.
