CANADIAN TIRE BREAKS "BIG SPENDER" CAMPAIGN

Canadian Tire launched a new advertising campaign called "Big Spender" this past weekend. The national television effort, from Doner Canada of Toronto, is the first time the Toronto-based retailer has featured its Canadian Tire "Money" in its advertising since launching the reward program in 1958. "There is a special magic and connection between Canadians and Canadian Tire 'Money'," said Eymbert Vaandering, vice-president of marketing for Canadian Tire. "The new television campaign takes a humorous approach to that connection and the way Canadians feel about Canadian Tire 'Money'." The 30-second spot depicts a guy treating his friends to a number of products at Canadian Tire which he pays for with Canadian Tire "Money". The English spot makes use of the song "Big Spender" by Peggy Lee while the French version features the song "Je suis cool" by Quebec musician Gilles Valliquette. Canadian Tire is also running 10-second animations during NHL playoff games. The three animated spots let customers know they can earn Canadian Tire "Money" at the retailer's gas bars, online at <http://www.canadiantire.ca> and when they use Canadian Tire branded credit cards. The "Big Spender" campaign will run for eight-weeks.
