MOTORCYCLE COUNCIL PROMOTES RIDER TRAINING COURSE
By Adnews Staff
The Toronto-based Motorcycle and Moped Industry Council is about to break a magazine campaign promoting its rider training courses. Full-page colour ads will run in Time Canada, Maclean's and L'Actualité, beginning next week and running until early May, advising Canadians to turn away from "e-mail" and "e-commerce" and get "e-lated" on a motorcycle. At the council's weekend courses loaner bikes are available to trainees who learn the fundamentals of safe riding. The council's executive director, Robert Ramsay, cited two reasons for the upcoming campaign: "First, there is a growing body of studies that demonstrate a very substantial decrease in the number of accidents experienced by motorcycle riders who have taken a rider training course," he said. "Second, our own most recent industry data show that today's motorcycle buyer is older, better educated, and more safety-conscious than ever. When we put those two findings together we realized that an extended public information campaign was a timely and responsible thing to do."
