CAAST CALLS A TRUCE
By Adnews Staff
The Canadian Alliance Against Software Theft is calling a one-month truce with small and mid-sized businesses in Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary and Winnipeg. Beginning April 1 and running until April 30, the campaign will give businesses in each of the four cities a one-month opportunity to review their software programs and acquire the licenses they may need to get legal and avoid penalties imposed by CAAST. Approximately 20,000 businesses will be contacted by CAAST through a direct mail campaign. Radio advertising and public relations activities will also be used to raise awareness of the Truce campaign. Toronto-based CAAST is an industry alliance of software publishers who's goal is to reduce software theft through education, legislation and legal enforcement. A special Truce campaign Web site at <http://www.caast.org/truce> has also been created. J. Walter Thompson created the radio advertising with iContact Communications, which is also handling the public relations component. The direct mail push is being managed by Go Direct Marketing and media buying is being handled by Excelerator Media, all of Toronto.
