TRANSCONTINENTAL CASHES OUT PUBLISAC.CA

Montreal-based Transcontinental Group is pulling the plug on its online coupon Web site Publisac.ca as a stand-alone operation. Responsibility for the site will be transferred to Transcontinental Media, the company's publishing and distribution subsidiary, which will integrate the operations of Publisac.ca with Transcontinental's physical Publi-Sac (Ad-Bag) door-to-door distribution arm. Previously Publisac.ca was part of the company's Interactive Marketing division. "A site of this magnitude devoted solely to online coupons does not correspond to a current market demand," said Serge Bragdon, president of Transcontinental Interactive Marketing. Publisac.ca is expected to remain online for the next few months while the company decides what to do with it. Fifteen positions will be cut at Publisac.ca by late April. Employees are being offered possible relocation within the company, severance pay and assistance in finding employment elsewhere.
