PANASONIC LOOKS TO THE FUTURE

Panasonic Canada has launched a combined version of its 30-second "Antique Show" and "Tau" commercials. The combined 60-second spot began running on network and specialty stations this week. The first 45-seconds is an extended version of the "Antique Show" commercial. Panasonic's Portable DVD Player, DVC Palmcorder and Plasma Television items are being appraised at an antique show set 20 years in the future. After the items are examined, the owner discovers despite the fact they are about twenty years old, they are quite up to date in their technology and hold no cash value. The remaining 15-seconds is a condensed version of the "Tau" commercial which features Panasonic's flat screen Tau Television. The TV is featured in a store window. Several coffee cups are seen on the ground in front of the window display. The store owner is seen cleaning up the cups and returning to his store. Moments later, a man walks by and sees the television. As he stands in a trance-like state staring at the television, his coffee cup falls from his hand. The new 60-second spot is scheduled to run for four-weeks. Advertising for Panasonic is done by Palmer Jarvis DDB.
