SHOPPERS DRUG MART PROMOTES COLON CANCER AWARENESS

Caring Stars are shining in Shoppers Drug Mart stores across Canada during a month-long fundraising and awareness campaign for colon cancer. The campaign, a joint effort of Shoppers Drug Mart and the Colorectal Cancer Screening Initiative Foundation, is part of a larger North American initiative by the National Colorectal Cancer Research Alliance in the U.S. Shoppers Drug Mart is the only Canadian chain among the more than 100 participating chains in the Caring Stars program across North America. The paper stars, which bear pictures of six celebrities, are being sold in Shopper Drug Mart stores for $1. The stars are then displayed in the drugstores' windows. A brochure about colon cancer has also been created. Print public service announcements promoting the Caring Stars program will run in Time, People, Glamour, Good Housekeeping and other North American magazines. The program is running at all 700 Shoppers Drug Mart stores in Canada from February 25 to March 24. The program will be extended next year to include Pharmaprix stores in Quebec. Public relations for the awareness campaign are being handled by National Public Relations of Toronto.
