PETA PROMOTING SPAY/NEUTER DAY
By Adnews Staff
PETA People For The Ethical Treatment of Animals, based in Norfolk, VA, has launched a new television commercial in support of U.S. National Spay/Neuter Day on Feb. 27. The spot was created by Saatchi & Saatchi creative director David Whitehouse and director Nicholas Racz. Racz directs for Applebox Productions in Vancouver and Film Blanc of Toronto. Vancouver's Circle Productions produced the commercial. In the spot, a dozen animatronic cats are seen having sex while the song "We Got It Goin' On" is playing. The commercial highlights the fact that over two million unwanted cats are euthanized each year in the U.S. The URL Fixcats.com is included in the spot. Lisa Lange, director of communications for PETA, said viewers are encouraged to go to the Web site to get information on getting their cats fixed. The spot will air throughout the U.S. and in select markets in Canada in the coming months. According to Lange, some stations in the U.S., including the Discovery Channel, have already rejected the ad.
