UUNET TAKES FAMILY NAME

UUNET Canada has changed its name to WorldCom, the name of its parent company based in Ashburn, VA. By adopting the name, UUNET acquires better branding opportunities and better brand recognition, said Deborah Brown, director of marketing for Toronto-based WorldCom Canada Ltd. WorldCom is a global communications company operating in more than 64 countries. Full-page ads in The Globe and Mail, Calgary Herald, Montreal Gazette and Les Affaires newspapers, announcing the name change, read "Think Big. Move Fast. Walk Tall. The World Awaits You." Underneath the ad announced "UUNET Canada is now WorldCom". Print advertising will be accompanied with back-lit signage at Toronto and Calgary airports and a direct mail campaign to 100,000 customers and prospects. Additional advertising featuring the WorldCom name will continue throughout the year as the company expands and introduces new products to its portfolio. Currently WorldCom Canada offers high-speed Internet access, Web hosting and Virtual Private Networks. Advertising, from Myriad Marketing and the Henderson Robb Group, is being supported with public relations from The Communications Group Inc., all of Toronto.
