NOKIA TAKES A SHOT

Nokia Canada, based in Ajax, Ontario, is running a new television commercial to promote its title sponsorship of the 2001 Brier Canadian Men's Curling Championship. This year is the first of a four-year sponsorship agreement between Nokia and the Brier. Toronto-based Labatt Breweries of Canada had held the title for the past 21 years. The 30-second spot, called "Barshot," broke on December 25 nationally and will run until March. The 2001 Nokia Brier takes place March 3 to 11 at the Ottawa Civic Centre. In the commercial a cell phone slides down a bar as an announcer on a nearby television describes a shot being taken on screen by a curler. The spot was created by TBWA/Chiat/Day of Toronto.
