TRANSCONTINENTAL CREATES NEW MEDIA SUBSIDIARY

Montreal-based Transcontinental Group has created a new subsidiary called Transcontinental Media Inc. The subsidiary groups the company's 53 magazines and periodicals with its 50 weekly newspapers and Publi-Sac, its door-to-door advertising distribution arm. The subsidiary combines the operations of Transcontinental Publications, which managed the magazines and periodicals, with Transcontinental Distribution, which managed the weekly newspapers and Ad-Bag operation. André Préfontaine will head the subsidiary as president. Most recently he served as president of Transcontinental Publications.
