TOSHIBA GIVES VIEWERS A TOUR IN NEW TV CAMPAIGN

Toshiba of Canada Information Systems Group, based in Markham, Ontario, is running a television ad campaign in support of the company's notebook computers. The bilingual effort from Ambrose Carr Linton Carroll of Toronto gives viewers of a future time a look back into a 21st century office featuring an "old-fashioned" desktop computer. Describing the scene as an extinct working environment, the tour guide demonstrates to tourists how people often worked late and kept pictures of the families on their desks so they would remember what they looked like. The tourists are horrified by the idea of having to work in an office. One asks the question "Where did the chains attach?" The tour guide answers the tourist by saying that while "chained to your desk" was a figure of speech, it could have referred to being trapped at a stationary desktop. The campaign is scheduled to run during sporting events including the Grey Cup and Super Bowl as well as during prime time programs including E.R., The West Wing and Will and Grace. Public relations are being handled by Environics Communications of Toronto.
