DIMETAPP ROBBERY AD PULLED OFF AIR
By Adnews Staff
Whitehall-Robbins has agreed to temporarily suspend an ad for Dimetapp cold remedy following a complaint from the Retail Council of Canada. The RCC sent a letter to Whitehall-Robins president Malcolm Seath last week, urging him to pull a television commercial for the brand that depicts a "smash and grab" robbery. The spot is part of a new advertising campaign from Palmer Jarvis DDB of Toronto. In response to the letter, Seath has "ordered the temporary suspension of the ad while the company decides whether to withdraw it permanently," said the RCC. The council said in a statement that Seath's decision is a victory in the first round of its fight to have the ad pulled, but the organization will continue to fight until it is off the airwaves for good.
