INDUSTRY VETERANS RAISE FUNDS FOR MARKETING PROGRAMS

Peter Elwood, senior vice president of Unilever Canada and Tony Miller, chairman and chief executive officer of MacLaren McCann Canada, have joined forces to establish a university degree program in marketing communications. Elwood and Miller are aiming to raise the $6.5 million needed to establish a chair in marketing communications at both an English and French university in Canada to develop a bachelor of business administration in marketing communications degree program. Miller and Elwood have taken on the title of co-chairs of the Marketing Communications Education Trust, which has been registered as a charitable foundation. Elwood and Miller are currently working to form a team of industry leaders that will help them in the raising the funds. Rupert Brendon, president of the Institute of Canadian Advertising, will manage the day-to-day affairs of the MCET as CEO.
