GLOBEANDMAIL.COM INTRODUCES BUSINESS NEWS AS IT HAPPENS

As part of an effort to expand its Internet activities, Toronto-based globeandmail.com has added breaking news coverage to its Web site. Throughout the day the site will carry breaking stories from an editorial team writing specifically for globeandmail.com. To promote the addition of the breaking news feature, a marketing push from BBDO Canada of Toronto has been created. It includes radio advertising in Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary and Ottawa, advertisements on the Elevator News Network in Toronto, Vancouver and Calgary, print promotion in The Globe and Mail newspaper, prints ads in Macleans, ROB magazine and the Canadian edition of Time, box cards and an online trivia contest quizzing users on breaking news. Yesterday's launch of the new service was also promoted with 350,000 post-it notes on the covers of the national newspaper. Advertising and marketing activities are being supported with public relations from Environics Communications of Toronto.
