RADIOSHACK SPONSORS MOON TREK
By Adnews Staff
Fort Worth, Texas-based consumer electronic retailer RadioShack will co-sponsor LunaCorp's Icebreaker Moon Rover project. LunaCorp, based in Arlington, VA, has been developing moon exploration technology for the past 11 years. The Moon Rover project is scheduled to lift off in 2003, dispatching robots to explore the surface of the moon. The project will be funded by corporate sponsors as well as exclusive television contracts, Internet portal fees and government space agency contracts. LunaCorp is looking for three or four more companies to join RadioShack in sponsoring the project. Jim McDonald, senior vice president of marketing for RadioShack, said the project gives the retailer an original branding opportunity as opposed to "signs in baseball stadiums."
