CHAPTERS APOLOGIZES FOR MUSIC AD
By Adnews Staff
Toronto-based Chapters has apologized for a recent full-page, print advertisement that insulted deaf people, a report in the National Post said. The ad, which read "Music prices so good they're a bargain even if you're deaf," received about 20 e-mail and telephone complaints after it ran in Monday's issue of the National Post. Martha Cass, a Chapters Online spokesperson, said the ad was never meant to run. She explained it's normal practice for an advertiser and its advertising agency to create a variety of concepts, of which some are later discarded. Even before the company was contacted, she said, it was aware of the mistake. It is not know if Chapters, or its agency, BBDO Canada of Toronto, sent out the ad.
