INTEL-ORACLE DATABASE

U.S.-based Intel Corp. and software company Oracle Corp. are joining forces to develop a multimedia database. The two companies will combine Intel's communication technologies with Oracle software for storing video and other multimedia information. The database will be used in new services for PC users, such as video mail and news on demand. Accessing the database would allow users in separate locations to call up and discuss photographs, engineering drawings or video information. In addition, users could record a video message and store it for later retrieval, just as people send electronic-mail messages. The alliance relies on distributing video over an existing digital telephone service.
