AIR CANADA LANDS CANADIAN AIRLINE'S AD ACCOUNT AT MARKETEL
By Adnews Staff
Air Canada, following its takeover of Canadian Airlines, has moved Canadian's advertising account from Gee, Jeffery & Partners Advertising to its own agency-of-record, Montreal-based Marketel/McCann Erickson, according to an article in the National Post. The carrier said it will continue to have Gee, Jeffery work on an assignment basis to merge Canadian's brand into Air Canada's advertising, but Mike Beckerman, vice president of marketing at Canadian, said there is no need to have two agencies for one airline. As a result of the account move, Gee, Jeffery has reportedly laid off staff, although specifics have not been disclosed. Agency president Peter Jeffery said that "some adjustments" have been made but it is business as usual for the agency's other clients. Jeffery did say no senior people were affected in any way.
