MOLSON CANADA ANNOUNCES BARRIE COMMUNITY FUND
By Adnews Staff
Molson Canada is taking part in the community with the announcement of a $2 million dollar Molson Barrie Community Fund. Plans for the fund were originally made last month when Molson announced it will be closing its Barrie brewery in September 2000. Dave Perkins, president of the Ontario Region of Molson said at the time, the brewery would develop an investment program to help minimize the economic impact the brewery closing may have on the city. Barrie, Ontario Mayor Janice Laking has accepted the invitation to co-chair the committee with Molson Regional manager Ray Sriubiskis. The committee will administer the fund, which is expected to be active by February 1, 2000. "We want to be clear that Molson has every intention of being involved with the Barrie community well into the future, " Sriubiskis said. He added the community fund represents Molson's commitment to the City. Mayor Laking and Sribuiskis want to build a committee that will include a Molson Barrie employee and representatives from the volunteer and business sectors of the community.
