To promote its new Internet financial news and research centre site Smallcapcenter.com, which launched on Tuesday, Vancouver-based Stockgroup.com was going to launch a new advertising campaign that included advertising on CNN, CNBC, MSNBC, The Wall Street Journal, Raging Bull and Silicon Investor. However, CNN and its affiliates CNNfn and CNN Headline News, has refused to accept advertising from Smallcapcenter.com due to a new policy that denies advertising to those companies Time Warner's CNN determines to be competitors. The television spots were scheduled to hit the airwaves on Tuesday to coincide with the launch of the new site. Stockgroup.com was advised by a CNN representative that Smallcapcenter.com is the first company to be affected by CNN's new policy. Marcus New, chairman and CEO of Stockgroup Holdings Inc. said the company was flattered to be considered a competitor with an organization such as CNN. However he added, the company differentiates itself from the CNN properties because unlike CNN, Smallcapcenter.com focuses on small cap news and information. The campaign, from Rocket Science of New York, will continue to run in its additional advertising mediums on an eight week cycle. PR for Stockgroup.com is being handled on a project basis by Agitprop, Inc. of New York.
