Y&R ACQUIRES BRITISH ADVERTISING AGENCY

New York-based Young & Rubicam Inc. has announced its purchase of RKCR Rainey Kelly Campbell Roalfe, an advertising agency based in London. Operating under the name Rainey Kelly Campbell Roalfe/Y&R, the merged operations will be headed up by RKCR's founding partners, M.T. Rainey and Jim Kelly, who will be joint chief executives, and Robert Campbell and Mark Roalfe, who will serve as co-creative directors. Financial details of the transaction, which gives Y&R a branded presence in London and gives RKCR access to one of the largest advertising networks, were not disclosed. The new combined operation will be among the top ten UK agencies in terms of billings. RKCR was founded in 1993. Its client roster includes the Times and the Sunday Times, the Virgin Group, Royal and Sun Alliance, Miller Genuine Draught and Pilsner, Thornton's Confectionery, Tia Maria and the UK Government's Central Office of Information.
