HYDRO QUEBEC PROMOTES PUBLIC SAFETY IN NEW CAMPAIGN
By Adnews Staff
Hydro-Quebec of Montreal has one objective in mind for the company, to cut the number of electricity-related accidents to zero. This year the company is working towards its objective of zero with the help of a publicity campaign featuring the "Plug and Socket" twins. Hydro-Quebec has created two new advertisements to focus attention on dangerous situations that may result in fatal accidents. The new ads will be shown during the hockey playoffs starting April 22 and running until May 19. Safety messages will also be broadcast over community radio to the greater Montreal region through April, May and June. TENSION billboards, that have been located along highways during the last three years in Spring and Summer, will also be posted again this year in the Montreal and Quebec regions. A new brochure entitled Electricity and Security-What you Need to Know, has also been made available to the public, informing them on electrical hazards, electrical shock and safety tips. Advertising for Hydro-Quebec is done by BOS of Montreal. Over the years, efforts to promote public awareness have helped reduce the number of accidents resulting from improper use of electricity. In 1990, 49 accidents and 24 deaths occurred. In 1998, those numbers decreased to 28 accidents and 4 deaths.
