QUEBEC RESIDENTS PAYLESS

Payless ShoeSource of Topeka, Kansas is continuing its expansion into the Canadian market with the announcement of store openings in Quebec. The first Canadian stores opened in Ontario in 1997 with additional stores opening in Alberta and British Columbia. One store has already opened in the Place Vertu in Ville St-Laurent area and 15 more stores are expected to open by the end of March across the province. Payless stores are designed to display shoes on racks arranged by gender, size, color and style. Stores in Quebec will offer 600 styles of shoes along will accessories such as handbags, hosiery and socks. Advertising for the new stores is will be done but plans have not been confirmed. The company established its Canadian subsidiary, Payless ShoeSource Canada Inc., in 1997. Payless operates 4,357 stores in the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico Guam and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
