QUEBECOR TAKES OVER

Montreal-based Quebecor Inc. has announced the completion of its acquisition of Sun Media Corporation of Toronto. The amalgamated publishing company will keep the name Sun Media Corp. and will be primarily comprised of all the daily and weekly newspapers of Sun Media and Quebecor Communications. President and Chief Executive Officer of the merged company will be Paul Godfrey. The new board of directors has approved this year's operating budget and sees Sun Media operating in five divisions: the Eastern Group (Le Journal de Montreal, Le Journal de Quebec, The Ottawa Sun and the Sherbrooke Record), the Western Group (The Edmonton Sun, The Winnipeg Sun and The Calgary Sun) with The Toronto Sun and The London Free Press as standalone operations. The Community Newspaper Group will be the fifth group and will include all the weeklies and specialty publications of Bowes Publishers and Quebecor. Quebecor Inc. is a communications holding company and has publishing (including distribution and retail), broadcasting and multimedia activities through its wholly-owned subsidiaries Sun Media and Quebecor Communications Inc.
