IBM INTRODUCES NEW WORKPAD MODELS

U.S.-based International Business Machines Corp. has introduced two new models of its WorkPad PC Companion line. The two new models are the 30x and c3 (model 40x). The new WorkPads incorporate improved LCD screens for clearer viewing, an ultra-thin form factor and rechargeable batteries for improved portability. The new units also include EasySync for Lotus Notes software and IBM WorkPad Infrared Synchronization. Users can upgrade their Workpads to perform wireless back-up and data synchronization, eliminating the need to bring along the desktop docking cradle. By pointing the infrared-enabled WorkPad in the direction of an infrared-equipped PC and tapping the WorkPad HotSync application, users can synchronize data without cables. The 30x offers an enhanced data capacity with 4MB of RAM. The c3 (model 40x) incorporates 2MB of RAM. The new models will be available through IBM resellers. Promotion of the WorkPads will be done by IBM resellers. Advertising for IBM Canada Ltd., is done by Ogilvy & Mather of Toronto. PR is handled by Goodman Communications of Toronto.
