RETAILER PLANTS TREE PROMOTION

Eddie Bauer of Redmond, Washington is launching the first North American promotion of its Global ReLeaf Tree Project on Oct. 11. In the Add A Dollar. Plant A Tree campaign, customers can donate a dollar or more along with a store or catalog purchase and have a tree planted in one of eight reforestation sites in North America. The home furnishing and sportswear retailer will match donations of up to 75,000 customers. In addition, Eddie Bauer U.S. sportswear stores will sell a limited edition 12-song CD. A tree will be planted for each CD sold. Advertising for the promotion will begin this month using in-store signs and the Eddie Bauer catalogue. The Global ReLeaf Project is being done in conjunction with American Forests, a non-profit citizens' conservation organization in the U.S. Eddie Bauer joined forces with American Forests last March. To kick off the partnership, it planted over 10,000 trees.
