HEART AND STROKE FOUNDATION GETS HEALTH CHECK

The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada gets a check mark for its new project. The Ottawa-based organization has launched a national food information program called Health Check. At the heart of the program is the Health Check symbol and the Heart and Stroke Foundation name. The Health Check symbol on a food package means the product's nutrition information has been reviewed by the foundation and meets the established nutrition criteria. Every food product involved in the program will have an explanatory message, a nutrition panel and an on-pack symbol. The goal of the program is to help consumers make wise food choices when they buy groceries. Beginning last week, Canadians can look for the Health Check logo on a variety of products indicating those products are part of healthy eating. The first companies to join Health Check are Multi-Marques Inc., The Florida Department of Citrus, Provigo Distribution Limited, Ultima Foods Inc., Ben's Limited, Chiquita Banana North America, Maple Lodge Farms, Carriere Foods Inc., Canada Pork, Bon-EE-Best and Nicherei Foods. The program will be promoted using brochures and a 1-800 number. The brochure was created by a freelance graphic designer.
