TEENS GET CREDIT IN VANCOUVER

VanCity Credit Unions of Vancouver recently launched a teen financial package that includes a $500-limit Visa credit card. Teens must have income to get the card, and it has to be co-signed by a parent. "It's not our intention to push credit, it's hopefully to play a role in family decisions," product manager Ken Smith told Adnews this week. From the credit union's point of view. the card creates member loyalty and teaches responsible credit management. The package also offers no-charge transactions on accounts including the use of VanCity bank machines, and access to other forms of lending such as a line of credit or personal loan. Radio advertising for the service began last month, created by Grey Advertising's Vancouver office.
