OUTFITTERS OPENS FIRST STORE

The Hudson's Bay Company of Toronto opened its outerwear store in Toronto earlier this month. Called Outfitters, the store features HBC Point Blanket Outerwear, which is a line of jackets; the Signature Series, which is a line of clothing that includes a distressed brown lamb leather Aviator jacket, hemp and leather carriables, 100% merino lambswool, a hand-woven long coat and a reversible beaver coat. For outdoor adventurers, the store carries a 22 pocket vest, 2-in-1 railway pants which go from long protective legwear to shorts, a zip-off sleeve jacket and a variety of boots including expedition boots, guide boots, hiking boots and backpacking boots. In addition to outerwear, Outfitters sells casual style home furnishings including merchandise from The Portage Store Canoe Table and Bookcase, Niagara-on-the-Lake Wine Rack, Lake St. Joseph Furniture, which is a collection of handmade furnishings created by a fifth generation Muskoka woodworking family and The Matapedia Furnishings, which is a replica of fine leather furnishings from 1885 that occupied the Canadian Pacific Railroad's Donald Smith's private rail car. The store is being promoted in the greater Toronto area using ads in daily newspapers. The ads will be created by Fuel Advertising of Toronto. Later this month, Outfitters will launch ads in U.S. border towns.

Separately, Outfitters has teamed up with the Canadian Canoe Museum of Peterborough, Ont., a non-profit group showcasing a collection of canoes and kayaks from around the world. Under the partnership, the museum will perform canoe and kayak demonstrations at the store. In addition, Outfitters will make a yearly donation to the museum.
