ELECTROPHOTONICS USES FIRST AGENCY

Hewson, Bridge and Smith of Ottawa was handed the Concord, Ont.-based ElectroPhotonics account earlier this month. The agency won the business after a competition with an undisclosed number of Toronto and U.S. agencies. "The agency's impressive portfolio and client list weighed significantly in the decision-making process," president Dr. Tino Alavie says in a release. HBS's other high-tech clients include Lumonics Inc. and BG&G Optoelectronics. ElectroPhotonics specializes in the development and marketing of fiber-optic components for high-capacity telecommunications networks, fiber-optic test equipment and fiber-optic sensing systems. This is the first time the company has used an agency, HBS president Don Hewson told Adnews this week. Until now, it was a research-based company, but now that its products are ready to come to market, it is becoming more marketing focused. ElectroPhotonics will launch its first campaign next month using trade publications.
