SMALL BOOKSTORES COMBAT SUPERSTORES

Six independent bookstores have teamed up to battle the big box book superstores. The six book retailers have formed a marketing alliance, called The Book Specialists, to remind consumers and the book industry how the diversity of selection and knowledge available at each store benefits everyone. The group will launch a campaign to promote the strengths of the independent bookstores next month using newspaper ads, information flyers, point-of-purchase bookmarks and PR. The campaign will be handled by Special Assignment Inc. of Toronto. The bookstores participating in the alliance are: Bakka, The Children's Book Store, The Omega Bookstore, TheatreBooks, The Cookbook Store and Ulysses Travel Bookshop.
