GBV HANDED UNION ENERGY ACCOUNT

Toronto-based Union Energy has switched its account over to Griffin Bacal Volny of Toronto. The agency was chosen after a competition with two Toronto agencies: Padulo Integrated and the Saffer Group. "We felt they had the experience and expertise to help grow our business from the ground up," marketing director Janet Paolatto says in a release. "I was impressed with the flat organization structure and team approach at GBV." The incumbent on the business was MacLaren McCann of Toronto. As of January 1999, the energy services industry will be deregulated. In response, Union Energy has bought 15 heating, ventilation and air conditioning companies, services it will sell to consumers and businesses. In addition, it will sell furnaces, hot water heaters and gas appliances such as fireplaces. GBV's initial assignment will include retail advertising and building corporate awareness. To date, Union Energy has promoted its services using newspaper and radio ads, as well as direct mail.
