TRCC REMINDS MEN ITS ILLEGAL TO RAPE A DATE

The Toronto Rape Crisis Centre/Multicultural Women Against Rape is reminding men that date rape is a crime, and that rape doesn't always involve physical force. The campaign will use transit ads, bar washroom posters and postcards in bars and restaurants, as well as in frosh kit inserts at most Toronto universities and colleges. It was created by Vickers & Benson Advertising of Toronto, who handled the campaign on a pro bono basis. Urban Outdoor Trans Ad and Zoom Media, both of Toronto, donated media space. There are three different ads depicting three date rape tactics. The ad then reminds men that the scene they just read is a crime. "Date rape is the most under-reported and least talked about crime in our society. One of the reasons for this is the huge misconception out there that it only occurs when there is some form of physical force," TRCC spokesperson Anna Willats says in a release. "Although this campaign may be seen as controversial, it is also very real and will stimulate discussion on this important issue."
