GOODYEAR SEARCHES FOR HIGHWAY HEROES

The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company of Akron, Ohio is looking for a heroic trucker in North America. The company has launched a contest enlisting the help of the trucking industry, law enforcement agencies and the general public in its search for heroic truck drivers who have risked their lives to save others. Called the Goodyear North America Highway Hero Award, nominations are being accepted from the Canadian trucking industry for the first time in its 16 year history. Deadline for nominations is Oct. 15. The nominee must be a full-time truck driver, must live in the U.S. or Canada and the incident must have occurred in the U.S. or Canada between Oct. 1, 1997 and Sept. 30, 1998. The nominee must be on his way to or from work, be in his truck at the time of the incident and the truck must have at least 14 wheels. There will be four finalists chosen from the entries. Three of the finalists will receive a $5,000 savings bond, while the North America Highway Hero will win a $20,000 bond and a diamond ring. In Canada, the contest will be promoted using ads in trucking publications and PR, all handled in-house.
