IBM CHANGES SOFTWARE DIVISION
By Adnews Staff
International Business Machines Corp. of Armonk, New York has shaken up the executive offices of its software division. The computer maker has brought in former Compaq Computer vice-president Gian Carlo Bisone to be software marketing vice-president. Personal software products general manager Leland Reiswig has been named strategic adviser to John Thompson who is IBM's overall software chief. Another executive named John Thompson will replace Reiswig as general manager. Thompson has been striving to get outside companies to write programs that run on IBM's various operating systems. IBM is the world's biggest software company, according to company chairman and CEO Louis Gerstner, but most of the income in this area comes from proprietary programs that run on IBM's mainframe systems. The purchase this year of Lotus Development Corp. is an indication of how important PC software business is to IBM.
