PAGEMART ASSISTS DEAF COMMUNITY
By Adnews Staff
Toronto-based PageMart Canada has teamed up with Deaf-In-Touch of Burlington, Ont. to improve communication for the hearing impaired. Under the deal, Deaf-In-Touch will market PageMart's alpha-paging technology and its vibrating pagers. PageMart will supply the service. The four paging options will be: deaf-to-deaf, where a deaf person can use their TTY to send a message to another deaf person's pager; deaf-to-hearing, where a deaf person can use their TTY to send a message to a hearing person's pager; hearing-to-deaf, where a hearing person can use a voice phone number to send a message to a deaf person's pager and personal computer. Using PageMart's paging software and Internet feature, the hearing and the deaf can use their personal computers to send messages to each other. The service will be promoted at trade shows. PR will also be used. It will be done by BenchMark Communications of Toronto.
