ALTAVISTA SNAGS MILLIONS OF PAGES

Telus Corp. of Edmonton says its Canadian Internet search engine, AltaVista Canada, now offers access to more than 14 million Canadian Web pages. The search engine has indexed more than 130,000 Web sites. Users also have access to 140 million Web pages from around the world through AltaVista. The bilingual site allows users to search for Web sites that are programmed in 25 different languages including Chinese, Japanese and Korean. AltaVista Canada was launched in January 1998 by Telus Advertising Corp., a subsidiary of Telus Corp., and U.S.-based AltaVista Search Service. DoubleClick Canada of Toronto is the international sales agent for the AltaVista Canada Web site.
