BELL CANADA BUYS STAKE IN MPACT

Bell Canada is buying a 65% interest in MPACT Immedia of Montreal and merging the company with the Electronic Business Solutions unit of Bell Emergis. The deal is expected to close on Aug. 31. Bell Emergis was launched in July 1997. It focuses on communications, network applications, next-generation multimedia and network platforms, as well as information applications and solutions. MPACT offers EDI commerce, payment solutions and Internet commerce products and services. The newly merged company will be headquarterd in Montreal and have offices in Toronto, Ottawa and Michigan. The deal allows MPACT to pursue growth opportunities, while it will add value to Bell's recently announced national broadband Internet protocol.
