COMPAQ BUILDS AWARENESS THROUGH AD
By Adnews Staff
Compaq Canada of Richmond Hill, Ont. is letting Canadians know it is a strong company. The computer maker launched a newspaper campaign this week to build brand awareness and to tell consumers that it had a very strong first quarter. The company is a subsidiary of Compaq Computer Corp. of Houston, which did not perform as well as expected in the first quarter. The goal of the ad campaign is to show consumers that the Canadian subsidiary did well. The headline on the ad says "Three guys get together in a pie shop. Next thing you know, they're the number one PC manufacturer in the world. Must be pretty good pie." The copy reads: "It started with an afternoon chat in a pie shop in 1982. Today, Compaq sells more PCs than anyone else around the world. That's because we never forget what you demand in a computer. Exceptional quality, reliability and value, along with the support you'd expect from the leader in PC technology. Says a little something about the power of pie, doesn't it. To reach our Web site visit www.compaq.ca." The ad was created by Ammirati & Puris/Lintas of Toronto. It will be followed up with ads in business magazines.
