COMPAQ IN HOT WATER OVER MILLENNIUM BUG ADS
By Adnews Staff
Compaq Computer Corp. of Houston has been reported to the UK Advertising Standards Authority over ads that claim customers should get rid of their existing PCs in favor of Compaq machines because its products have passed Millennium compliancy tests. Prove It 2000, a supplier of PC auditing and fixing software for the Millennium bug, reported Compaq. It says its tests have shown that Compaq machines do not pass Year 2000 tests for some functions such as the workings of the internal Real Time Clock. Compaq says software that accesses the Real Time Clock is bad software. Prove It 2000 disputes this claim and points to the fact that Windows NT software accesses the Real Time Clock for time and date related functions.
