JWT GRABS DIET BUSINESS

J. Walter Thompson of New York was hired recently to handle advertising for Weight Watchers International of Jericho, Long Island, but the move won't necessarily affect the six Canadian franchises. They have the choice of using the U.S. creative or they can use their own agencies, marketing and communications manager Maureen Edgecombe told Adnews last week. Some use agencies, and some Canadian franchises do their advertising in-house. Saint-Jacques Vallée Young & Rubicam of Montreal handles advertising for Central and Southern Ontario, Quebec and Atlantic Canada. JWT won the account in a competition with five other agencies including incumbent Doig, Elliott, Schur of New York.
