E-COMMERCE WILL FLOOD YOUR IN BOX

E-Mail business came on stronger than many expected - and it's still growing. However, as a Deloitte & Touche Consulting group shows, the "killer application" of the Internet is set for a 300 per cent growth over the next two years. For many in the industry, this means e-commerce has become a true business medium, with adoption rates passing 50 per cent mark among businesses around the world, a release states. Deloitte Consulting 1998 Global Survey of Chief Information Executives polled more than 1,00 chief executives in six major industries in 25 countries. The survey is geared to take a snapshot of what is currently being used in IT, and what it's usage will be in two years. Currently, business in the financial sector are the most widely accepting of e-commerce usage. nearly 70 per cent adoption rate is expected within the next two years for consumers after products financial companies provide. However, the health care industry expects only a 40 per cent adoption rate over the same period of time. "Some products and services - particularly those that are information based, such as banking transactions - are better suited for cyberspace," Rich Pople, a senior manager with Deloitte Consulting and co-architect of the survey said. "In other businesses, folks still want to 'kick the tires.'"
