TORONTO STAR TV EXPANDS MARKET
By Adnews Staff
Torstar Electronic Publishing is one step closer to launching its television station in the entire greater Toronto area. The newspaper has signed a deal to air the station on Shaw Cablesystems, which will broadcast Toronto Star Television in Scarborough, Pickering, Richmond Hill, Markham, Vaughan, Barrie and Orillia. The move will hook up another 350,000 households to Toronto Star TV. The station began airing in 1.5 million Toronto area households last October. The channel features news that is published in The Toronto Star newspaper and highlights of what will be seen in the newspaper the next day. In addition, the station airs infomercials that can be 30-seconds to 30-minutes in length. Toronto Star TV strategic planning and new media vice-president Rocco Rossi told Adnews yesterday that the company wants to expand into Oakville, Ont. as well.
