Laurie Sloan has joined J. Walter Thompson of Toronto as client services director. Most recently she was senior vice-president and client services director at Leo Burnett Co. of Toronto. Sloan has also worked at FCB of Toronto. Nancy Leonard has been named worldwide corporate communications and marketing vice-president at Stratus Computer Inc. of Marlboro, Massachusetts. Previously she was worldwide corporate communications director at TimePlex Group Corp. Ron Bess has been appointed worldwide president of Foote, Cone & Belding of Chicago. Formerly he was president of the Chicago office. Mitch Tarr has joined JAWS Technologies of Calgary as sales and marketing vice-president. Most recently he was general manager at QC Data Petroleum Services Ltd. JAWS markets encryption software
