HUDSON'S BAY SETTLES VINTAGE LAWSUIT

Toronto-based Hudson's Bay Co. announced late on Monday that the company has finally resolved a lawsuit dating back to advertising activities in 1989. The Bay and two of its senior executives were originally charged with 17 misleading advertising charges under the Competition Act. On Monday the company pleaded guilty to one charge and agreed to pay a fine of $600,000. The charge related to bicycles which were advertised as being on sale at a reduced price for a certain period of time, even though the price did not change when that time period ended. The company says it has changed its sales practices to ensure compliance with all legislative requirements. The company is no longer under investigation.
